  • The court dismissed a petition for extraordinary relief seeking, among, others, an extension of timeliness for placing initiatives on the Utah State ballot.
  • Practice Tip: Rule 19 of the Utah Rules of Appellate Procedure requires that, except in cases where the petition is directed to a trial court, a petitioner explain why it is impractical or inappropriate to file the petition in the trial court. 
  • Practice Tip: A petition for extraordinary relief filed under Rule 19 of the Utah Rules of Appellate Procedure cannot be supported only by speculation.
